They are sold to help people to decrease their struggles in being able to fall asleep. They’re meant to help you fall asleep easier and stay sleeping throughout the night.

The official description of this product on the Walgreens website says that it has been clinically tested and has been proven to be effective. The description compares the active ingredient to that of Unisom SleepTabs. That said, the site also specifically specifies that it is a unique product that is not manufactured or distributed by the distributor of Unisom SleepTabs, Chattem, Inc.

The active ingredient in Wal-Som is doxylamine succinate. Each tablet contains 25 milligrams of that non-prescription drug. A dose of this sleep aid consists of one gluten free tablet. This product is meant for use by adults and children over the age of 12 years. To take Wal-Som according to the package direction, one tablet should be taken a half hour before bedtime or as directed by a doctor. This product is not meant to be used by children under the age of 12. Do not cut the tablets to give a child a smaller dose.

If you have already given any amount of Wal-Som to a child aged 12 years or younger, consult a doctor. This product is also not appropriate for people of any age with certain medical conditions such as chronic bronchitis, emphysema, asthma, other breathing problems, glaucoma, or trouble urinating as the result of an enlarged prostate gland. The use of this product should not be combined with the use of alcoholic beverages.

This pill should be taken only at bedtime as it causes sleepiness and grogginess. It’s important not to operate any heavy machinery or drive after taking Wal-Som. It’s also important not to do these activities first thing in the morning the night after taking these pills until you know how your body reacts to them.

If your sleeplessness continues for two consecutive weeks or longer, it’s important to speak with a doctor, regardless of whether or not Wal-Som is working for you.
