Sonata, also known by the generic name Zaleplon, is a prescription strength sleep aid that is used as a sedative, also known as a hypnotic. It works by changing the balance of some of the chemicals in your brain, which have been known to contribute to insomnia. This drug is used in order to help you to feel more relaxed so that it is easier for you to fall asleep and maintain that sleep.
One of the main benefits of taking Sonata is that it is highly effective. For that reason, your doctor and pharmacist should both speak to you about how you should be taking this drug. It is highly important that you never take this pill unless you know that you will have no fewer than four straight hours afterward which you can dedicate exclusively to sleeping. The reason that this is so important is that you will feel extremely sleepy, and if you must force yourself to stay awake, your judgment may be impaired, your coordination may be thrown, and you may act or behave in a way that you will not remember later on.
Speak with your doctor about how you should take Sonata, and follow those directions very carefully. They will also be available on your prescription label, so be sure to read the packaging carefully to remind yourself of the instructions that you have been given. In order to take the pill, swallow it whole with a full glass of water. Try not to take this drug with any kind of food and do not take it within an hour of having eaten a heavy meal or one that contains a high amount of fat. This will make it more difficult for the medication to be absorbed by your body, making it less effective.
You will likely notice that your doctor will only prescribe Sonata for a short period of time. This is because it has been designed only as a short-term use medication. It will not cure the cause of the insomnia, so it should be considered a bandage solution to treating symptoms of another problem such as anxiety or a medical condition. If you continue to experience insomnia after taking the medication for 7 to 10 straight nights, or if the sleeplessness worsens, it is very important to speak to your doctor.
Should you need to take something for longer than two weeks, your doctor will likely change your prescription from Sonata, as the use of this medication for longer than that time can lead to withdrawal symptoms when its use is ceased.

Sonata is wonderful! I’ve tried them all and this is the first one that can keep me asleep a full night and wake feeling great!!! Oh my goodness it has worked a miracle for me!
Sonata has been great for me! I fall asleep quickly and get 5-6 good hours of uninterrupted sleep. It is the first sleep med I have taken that allows me to awaken non-groggy or sluggish. I love it!!
